Toronto North Settlement Strategy and Action Plan  Vision A future where newcomers are: welcomed into their communities early after arrival; provided with options for supports made available on an ongoing basis that are client-focused, accessible, and culturally appropriate and that safeguard their economic integration, health and wellbeing and language training goals; and invited to participate in, and contribute to, their Toronto North community.  Mission To develop and implement a Settlement Strategy that brings a wide range of community stakeholders together to collaboratively identify key challenges and possible opportunities to address those challenges.

TN LIP Council: Settlement, Language & Orientation Examples of Accomplishments  Hosted a Citizenship Test Training for organizations;  Piloted 3 new citizenship test classes including tracking client outcomes and curriculum development;  Initiated dialogue with CIC and MCI to learn more about the new CLARS (Coordinated Language Assessment and Referral System) structure.

  9. TN LIP Council: Settlement, Language & Orientation Examples of Activities 13/14  Organize a CLARS forum with CIC and MCI;  Testing and expanding Citizenship Test Preparation courses;  Explore “No wrong door model” of settlement.

TN LIP Council: Health & Wellbeing Examples of Accomplishments  Developed and piloted a new training offering in mental health and cultural competence;  Conducted a survey of frontline workers’ awareness and skills in providing services using a ‘cultural competency for client mental health’ approach;  Participated in the early identification clinic project providing health assessments and service referrals to newcomer families and their children;

TN LIP Council: Health & Wellbeing Examples of Activities 13/14  Develop a forum for a resident workgroup to present information on appropriate recreation services for newcomers;  Organize a forum to share innovative approaches to food security that promotes culturally and religiously appropriate food security initiatives;  Build awareness about campaigns that address systemic barriers to access in health services and health equity for different newcomer populations.

TN LIP Council: Employment & Labour Market Examples of Accomplishments o Support for local initiatives e.g. Yorkdale Recruitment Event and Youth Opportunities Fair; o Coordinated a forum with other LIPs in Toronto providing Job Developers with access to hiring agents for the Pan-Am Games 2015; o Formation of neighbourhood-based Professional Immigrant Network.

TN LIP Council: Employment & Labour Market Examples of Activities 2013/14  Distribution of promotional videos for employment services directed towards employers and job- seekers as a service coordination effort;  Development of an Employer Engagement Strategy;  Training opportunities for LIP members and other stakeholders on latest diversity hiring approaches and trends.
