“Competition between people ensures only one thing: that if you win, you will have done a better job at whatever it is than the other person

  • did. That does not mean that you will have done a good job, just a

better one.” Nancy Kline

“We ignore people’s need to participate at our own peril. If they’re involved, they will create a future that already has them in it…people support what they create” Margaret Wheatley “‘If you want to build a ship, don’t drum up people together to collect wood and don’t assign them tasks for work, but rather teach them to long endlessly for the sea.” Anon

  • This should be how we work…full stop!!!
  • It was a breakthrough that voluntary organisations could put their guard

down and say ‘We’re involved’.

  • Sense of being ‘in it together’, took collective responsibility for making

progress

  • PSPs could be more time-consuming than traditional methods, maybe less

‘efficient’. But it wouldn’t be as much effort next time, and we know better how to ‘do’ it now.

What PSP allows  “It helps to ensure whatever is delivered is based on what people said they wanted and needed”.  “The process strengthens relationships and allows for new links and new relationships”.  “Renewed motivation from working with people who are able to make the decisions that impact on their lives”. What next  Difficulties in changing mind set in the way we work……chipping away!  Sustainability of the piloted service.  Sustainability of working this way.

Public Social Partnership – Top tips!

  • Work closely with all partners and meet on a regular basis throughout the

duration of the PSP.

  • Allow time for planning, it will take longer than you think.
  • Test your theories.
  • Get the right people involved who are prepared to work!
  • Be honest about changes and work through issues honestly and

collaboratively.

  • Always remember what you are trying to achieve.

Keep a ‘can do’ attitude.
