Project goals

Unit Design and Use

  • Explore how to successfully design, revise, and implement high

quality units in participating districts and states.

  • Focus on the use of student work on common assignments to

inform instructional conversations.

Resources and Support

Identify resources, support and professional learning opportunities educators need to effectively design and implement the units.

Evidence of Student Learning

Determine how evidence of student learning from common assignment units may contribute to more robust teacher evaluation systems, particularly in non-tested grades and subjects.

From the beginning, America has been known to be a little greedy. America has fought wars just to get land the first war they fought is the revolution war. Americans also made Indians leave there land wich is called trail of tears. They do all this because they want slavery to increase, they fought for Texas. Also America makes treaties to get more land. The President wants to take land that doesn’t belong to

  • America. Americans are very violent when they

want to own more land, they will do anything for land.

If the Spanish-American War had not taken place we would not be living in the state of Colorado. The Spanish-American war should have taken place. The Spanish-American war started in 1846. This war had been won by America. America received half of Mexico’s land. The first reason, why the Spanish-American war should take place is because James Polk wanted land. In document 3 James Polk said “I am extremely desirous to acquire California.” James Polk wanted California. He went so far by threatening them with congress. Another reason U.S. should have gone to war is because the Mexican soldiers had killed so many in America. In document 3 James Polk had clearly said “Mexico…have at last invaded our territory and had shed blood of our fellow citizens on our own soil.” James Polk had wanted to go to war. He had given the Mexican government a deal but they refused it. In the end the Mexicans were the ones who had killed first.

George Orwell captures the diction of remorse throughout the short story. In part of this short story after he shoots the elephant the narrator says, “in the end I could not stand it any longer and went away” (Orwell6). The words “end” and “went away” demonstrate remorseful diction because the text provides information on how the narrator reacted towards the shooting. There’s another remorseful moment when Orwell states, “Afterwards, of course, there were endless discussions about the shooting of the elephant” (Orwell6). The words “of course” and “endless” shows how even after the shooting the narrator couldn’t get away from the shooting creating a remorseful tone that Orwell creates
