  7. FOUNTAIN OF KNOWLEDGE HEART OF GOLD School Vision

  8. The imagery of the Fountain of Knowledge connotes continuous flow, suggesting infinity. This imagery recognises that knowledge is not static ; it does not stand still; rather, it flows continuously , especially so, with the evolving landscapes of the world. Fountain also connotes ‘source’ . As we continue to navigate the current and future landscapes, we will and should become the source or creators of new knowledge ourselves. This stems from our belief that our students are not empty vessels waiting to be filled up with knowledge. We believe that our students, in their pursuit of knowledge, can also become creators of new knowledge in their own journey of discovery. So, in FPPS, we seek to develop the attitudes and dispositions of all our students to be confident lifelong learners who can learn, unlearn and relearn , and have the adaptability to create new knowledge in their own learning experiences.

  9. Fountain of Knowledge A Confident Person who is to learn, learn, unlearn, relearn

  11. Heart of Gold A caring leader who is able to l isten, empathise, serve

  12. The chemical symbol of gold, Au comes from ‘aurum’ the Latin word for gold, which means morning glow or shining Dawn . This understanding of the word gold is useful to help us understand what it means by Heart of Gold . Indeed, we want every student in the school to grow their hearts to become what gold is to the world. We want our students to be the morning glow , the first light at the break of dawn to everyone around them, at work, at play and at home by living out our FPPS GRAIN values, particularly the values of graciousness and integrity. Our students will treat one another with graciousness in words and in deeds , always be kind and gentle in spirit , and ready to listen, understand the needs of others and serve others and the community.

  16. What parents can do…

  17. PREPARING OUR CHILDREN FOR LIFE “By experiencing failure and adversity, researchers have found, is a critical part of building character ….. Based on research, adults who had experienced little or no adversity growing up were actually less happy and confident than those who had faced a few significant setbacks or hurdles in childhood.”

  18. PREPARING OUR CHILDREN FOR LIFE When we shield our children from every possible adversity – when parents call their teachers to get an extension on a project, or drive into school with something they have forgotten and the school allows it – we are denying our children these character-building experiences .”
