In North America, grizzly bears are found in western Canada, Alaska, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho and a potentially a small population in Washington.

  33. WHAT DOES THE ANIMAL LOOK LIKE?

  34. WHAT DOES THE ANIMAL EAT AND HOW DOES IT GET ITS FOOD? • Diet: Grizzly bears are omnivores. The most commonly eaten plants are the fleshy roots of some plants, fruits, berries, grasses, and forbs. If grizzly bears are on the hunt, their prey can include fish (especially salmon), rodents like ground squirrels, carrion and hoofed animals like moose, elk, caribou, and deer. • They get there food by going to the pond and get a lot of fish.

  35. DOES YOUR ANIMAL HAVE A BODY ADAPTATION ? WHAT IS IT AND WHY DOES IT HAVE THIS ADAPTATION? • Using their long, sharp claws and powerful digging strength, they dig dens for themselves where they nest through the winter. In their dens, grizzly bears enter their hibernation state, during which their body temperature and heart rate drop. • Also known as brown bears for their signature coloring, grizzly bears live in harsh, cold environments like Alaska, Siberia and the Rocky Mountains. They're only able to survive in these areas because of their physical and behavioral adaptations, which allow them to hunt for food, shelter themselves for the winter and reproduce in a way that helps to ensure the survival of their cubs.

  36. DOES YOUR ANIMAL HAVE A BEHAVIOR ADAPTATION? • Hibernation • Because grizzlies live in environments that are cold during winter, they are adapted to hibernate. As winter approaches and their food supplies start to dwindle, grizzly bears forage and hunt more often so that they can build up body fat. Using their long, sharp claws and powerful digging strength, they dig dens for themselves where they nest through the winter. In their dens, grizzly bears enter their hibernation state, during which their body temperature and heart rate drop. During this period, they do not need food or water, nor do they need to relieve themselves -- they simply sleep.

  37. WHAT IS IT AND WHY DO THEY HAVE THIS ADAPTATION? • Using their long, sharp claws and powerful digging strength, they dig dens for themselves where they nest through the winter. In their dens, grizzly bears enter their hibernation state, during which their body temperature and heart rate drop. • They have this so they can rip threw their prey so that they will not get eaten or get scratched up in the wild.
