Product That Can Be Donated

  • Food Lion private label products,

which are damaged or outdated.

  • All meat and processed meat items,

including beef, pork, chicken, lunchmeat and prepackaged items, that are still safe to consume but cannot be sold at a reduced price and would otherwise be thrown out, may be donated.

  • Deli/Bakery items that can no longer

be sold and would otherwise be thrown out.

Product That Can Be Donated

  • Produce items that no longer

meet Food Lion’s fresh standards but are still fit for consumption, may be donated.

  • HBC - Health and beauty care

items (excluding medicines) that are out of date or damaged.

Product That Cannot Be Donated

  • Food Lion Stores cannot donate

any product that is spoiled.

  • Food Lion Stores cannot donate
  • rgan meats or seafood (i.e.

liver).

Food Lion Responsibilities

  • Meat donations should be kept in the

freezer until pick up.

  • Per the U.S. Department of Agriculture,

food banks cannot accept unlabeled products.

  • Salvage product donations are to be

given only to authorized Second Harvest food bank representatives, presenting a Second Harvest Identification Card displaying the food bank/agency name.

Food Lion Responsibilities

  • All product donations are to be properly

receipted by the food bank/agency (utilizing the food bank/agency form), and signed by both the store management and the food bank representative.

  • If the food bank/agency does not have a

donation form available, store management should provide the “Product Donation Form”

Partner Agency Responsibilities

  • The food bank/agency assigned to

each store will provide a contact for store management to call to arrange donation pick-ups, as the store’s individual needs require.

  • Once contacted, the food bank/agency

should arrange for pick-up within 24

  • hours. Upon arrival at the store, the

food bank/agency will request the manager on duty to assist in the pick- up.

Partner Agency Responsibilities

  • Food Bank/agency picking up

meat items is required to have meat products refrigerated during

  • transport. At the very minimum,

the agency needs to transport these products in a temperature- controlled cooler or freezer blanket.

Not Reporting – 1st Occurrence

  • ASAP Resource Coordinator will

contact agencies via phone or email to notify them of their first occurrence.

  • Request the missing months/store(s)

report(s) be submitted.

  • Reiterate to the agency the reporting

commitment they agreed to as a part of acceptance into the program.

Not Reporting – 2nd Occurrence

  • ASAP Resource Coordinator will contact

agencies via phone or email to notify them of the second occurrence.

  • Request the missing months/store(s) report(s)

be submitted.

  • Reiterate to the agency the reporting

commitment they agreed to as a part of acceptance into the program.

  • Send a follow-up letter to the agency director

specifying the action/consequences that will

  • ccur if agency fails to report by the due date a

third time within that twelve month period.

  • Notify ASAP Director of agency’s second

non-compliance occurrence.

  • Agency removal from program: If

an agency fails to submit the monthly report (3) times in a 12 month period – they will be notified

  • f failure to do so and dropped

from the program.

  • ASAP Resource Coordinator will notify

Agency Services Mgr, Outreach Programs & Evaluations Mgr, and Vice President of Programs of non-compliant agency’s failure to comply for a third time and the resulting actions being taken.

  • ASAP Resource Coordinator will contact

non-compliant agency’s Food Bank branch Outreach Coordinator to notify them of agency’s failure to comply for a third time.

  • Outreach Coordinator will select an agency to

replace the removed non-compliant agency, provide new agency with program guidelines, store pick-up days/times, and Food Lion cards.

Not Reporting – 3rd Occurrence

  • Outreach Coordinator will provide

replacement agency information to the Resource Coordinator for inclusion into database.

  • Outreach Coordinator will contact Food Lion

store/manager to notify them of non-compliant agency being removed from program due to lack of reporting compliance, and will provide manager with the replacement agency’s information.

  • A letter will be sent to the non-compliant

agency’s director by ASAP Resource Coordinator specifying the removal of the agency as a Food Lion partner due to their lack

  • f compliance for a third time within a twelve

month period.
