EIA Study • The developer/proponent must arrange for an EIA study to be conducted by a registered EIA consultant based on the approved TOR.
EIA Study Objectives Identify & assess the • potential environmental & resource management impacts of the proposal. Recommend appropriate • methods to eliminate or mitigate those impacts. To allow developer to make • changes to proposal by mitigating significant impacts before EIA produced. To produce an EIA report for • the proposal.
What is the EIA Report? • Document that contains the findings of the EIA study. • Must contain information required by the TOR. • Must be signed and dated by or on behalf of the developer. • Have attached to it all reports, plans, analyses and other documents that are need to help readers understand the report.
Content of EIA Report Describe purpose & scope • of the development. Describe the • environmental setting of the proposed developmental site. Describe the possible • environmental impacts of the proposed development. Consider technically and • economically appropriate alternatives, including the option of taking no action.
Content of EIA Report • Describe any proposed mitigation actions to reduce or avoid adverse impacts • Summarize the results of all public consultations held on the proposal • Make recommendations on preferred development alternatives, mitigation measures and monitoring • Address any matters specified in the approved TOR
Public Notices The completed EIA Report • must be entered into the EIA Register and made available for inspection by the public. If a processing authority • processes the EIA, they may give notice in the local media of the publication of the Report and must advise the public as to where they can obtain a copy of the Report and how the public can participate for reviews
