Setting Up Your FRS Radio

Rotate On/Off Switch to turn radio on and set volume Press MENU Button ONCE QUICKLY to enter Setup Large Channel Number begins flashing – use Up and Down buttons to set desired channel Press PTT (Push to Talk) button

Reporting Your Entry Status to CERT

  • 1. Stay on FRS channel 8 until you hear CERT announce that they are
  • perational.
  • 2. Change channels to 12 or 13 as appropriate to your location –

Channel 12 north of Stanley Dollar, Channel 13 south of Stanley

  • Dollar. Suggest one radio stay tuned to CERT in your entry.
  • 3. LISTEN FIRST – wait for a break in the traffic!
  • 4. Press the PTT key and transmit “CERT Comms, this is [your first

name], [street] and [entry]. “CERT Comms, this is John, Skycrest 10”. RELEASE the PTT key!

  • 5. WAIT till you hear “[your street and entry], go ahead”
  • 6. Press PTT and transmit “CERT COMMS, [first name] reports [street

and entry] green status”, or “red status”, over”. “Green status” means that all residents are OK and you do not need a CERT SAR

  • Team. “Red status” means that you need CERT help!

“CERT Comms, John reports Skycrest 10 green status, over”

  • 7. WAIT for CERT to acknowledge your first name, street & entry and

status

  • 8. Next caller starts at Step 3. PLEASE BE PATIENT AND COURTEOUS
