FEEDBACK FROM PATIENTS

Newly Diagnosed Patients

  • Shocked when diagnosed
  • Unable to take in the information
  • Great support from family but often felt alone
  • Unsure what the future holds

Patients Living with kidney cancer

  • The ability to share and empathise with new diagnosed

patients

  • Patients who have survived would like to help others
  • They feel that they would have benefitted from this service

GETTING STARTED

  • One of the challenges faced was reaching kidney cancer

patients due to data protection

  • Emailed all patients in Scotland that we have contact

information for on our data base

  • The feedback was overwhelming that this is a service that

would be beneficial

  • A significant number responded to say that they would like to

be buddy’s

  • Spoke with Clinicians and CNS Nurses to get their buy in
  • I was trained by Maggie’s
  • Set up email address and Freephone telephone number
  • Trained Buddy’s

HOW SCHEME WILL WORK

  • CNS Nurses will hand out literature to patients and

make them aware of the service

  • CNS will then contact me with patient info, I will then

wait for patient to get in touch

  • I will then put patient in touch with relevant

buddy/buddies
