History Till ¡1972, ¡the ¡Director ¡General ¡of ¡Civil ¡AviaDon ¡was ¡the ¡regulator ¡as ¡ well ¡ as ¡ the ¡ service ¡ provider ¡ and ¡ managed ¡ all ¡ the ¡ airports ¡ in ¡ the ¡ country. ¡ ¡ ¡ In ¡the ¡year ¡1972, ¡the ¡InternaDonal ¡Airports ¡Authority ¡of ¡India ¡(IAAI) ¡ was ¡ formed ¡ to ¡ manage ¡ the ¡ four ¡ main ¡ internaDonal ¡ airports ¡ -‑ ¡ in ¡ Delhi, ¡Mumbai, ¡Kolkata ¡and ¡Chennai. ¡ ¡ ¡ In ¡ 1986, ¡ the ¡ NaDonal ¡ Airports ¡ Authority ¡ (NAA) ¡ was ¡ created ¡ to ¡ manage ¡the ¡air ¡traffic ¡services ¡and ¡domesDc ¡airports. ¡ ¡ ¡ In ¡1995, ¡the ¡IAAI ¡and ¡the ¡NAA ¡were ¡merged ¡to ¡form ¡the ¡ ¡Airports ¡ Authority ¡of ¡India ¡(AAI). ¡ 3 ¡
