THE BASICS

2 Minute Time Limit

  • 15 second Introduction
  • 30 seconds “Top Pair”
  • 30 seconds “Middle Pair”
  • 30 seconds “Bottom Pair”
  • 15 second Conclusion

50 Points

  • Content Relevancy (Do you know the

criteria for the class?)

  • Content Accuracy (Did you accurately

describe the horses in the class?)

  • Organization (Are your reasons easy to

follow?)

  • Terminology (Are you using comparative

and correct terms?)

  • Presentation (How well do you say what

you’re saying?)

TIPS

  • Match the complexity of your reasons to your experience level. Start with your mini-
  • pening in each pair, two to three arguments in each pair, and faults for your bottom
  • horse. Gradually, add more arguments, grants, and faults.
  • Use a “judging guide” and pick out terms you are comfortable using for each type
  • f class (halter, performance). Make lists for each type of class. Coaches, this is a

great “homework” assignment between practices.

  • Develop a set of transitions that you use regularly so that you aren’t “reinventing the

wheel” every time you give a set of reasons.

  • Practice saying “fancy” pre-written reasons (that you might find in a “judging guide”)
  • ut loud to focus on your delivery. The will help boost your confidence and help you

learn to “own” the terminology that you should be using.
