Outcomes of CPD "Call and Review"

Number of registrants

  • Registrants do CPD but

recording (and reflection) is driven by “the call”.

  • Registrants value CPD but

do not regularly think it benefits the users of their services.

  • The way we ask CPD to be

recorded does not necessarily aid reflection.

What you said about CPD

…the whole purpose of this is to encourage professionals to continually develop themselves and I don’t think the way it is at the moment is encouraging people to do that, it’s encouraging entirely the wrong behaviour. Pharmacist You can absolutely see the people who understand the process and are using it properly and those people who are basically ‘I have to do this to stay on the register...I’m writing it because I have to’ as opposed to I’m writing it to use it. CPD Reviewer I do feel it’s a tick box exercise. I do it because I have to do it, I don’t do it because I enjoy doing it or I think it’s going to make me a better pharmacy technician, I do it because I’m asked to do it as part of my registration. CPD Peer discussion Case studies

  • Build on what is currently there
  • Based on a common standard but

relevant to the context of each registrant

  • Not a fixed point assessment but

activities that assure standards
