  2. What is a MRC? MRC units are community-based and function as a way to locally organize and utilize volunteers – medical professional and others – who want to donate their time and expertise to promote healthy living throughout the year and to prepare for and respond to emergencies in our community. MRC volunteers supplement existing local emergency and public health resources.

  3. Who can volunteer? Medical and public health professionals Physicians, nurses, pharmacists, dentists, veterinarians, and mental health counselors. Other community members Interpreters, chaplains, office workers, legal advisors, students, retirees.

  4. Plymouth County (PC) MRC Scope The PC MRC exists to improve emergency response and protect our community’s health and well-being against the spread of disease, acts of terrorism, natural disasters and other man-made disasters. Volunteer Activities Include: – Help with screenings & specialty clinics – Fair & special events such as RAGBRAI – Participation in drills – Educational events – Disaster response and clean-up – Daycare – Mental health, special needs – Sheltering

Local Partnerships MRC Sponsoring Agency: Plymouth County Public Health and Floyd Valley Hospital Partnerships: – Plymouth County EMA – City of Le Mars, Akron, Remsen, Kingsley – Private Sector – Red Cross – Fire, Police, Ambulance – Schools – Plains Area Mental Health – Churches – Boy Scouts – Other service organizations

  8. What can you do if you are interested? • Fill out a Volunteer Intake Form • Register on I-SERV • Participate in meetings and training • Recruit additional volunteers • Respond to requests • Comply with policies and procedures
