Making the Connection between PFE and Safety & Quality: Critical Activities Making the Connection between PFE and Safety & Quality: Critical Activities

  • Documenting impact stories as they occur

– Patient/family member corrected a clinician, avoiding error – Patient spoke up about a problem, allowing for intervention of SAE – Patient’s idea for improvement at PFAC or committee showed success – Patient’s perspective is noted or acknowledged in Board minutes

  • Documenting changes in safety & quality data

– Track effects on safety and quality measures as more PFE metrics are implemented – Note the cumulative effects of the metrics

  • Documenting changes in culture

– Noting ways in which patient perspectives are integrated into the hospital culture – Documenting increased interest by patients, families, and hospital staff to engage in projects and activities – Documenting comments of appreciation from hospital staff, patients, and families 13
