Environmental Workforce Development and Job Training Program
Services: Outreach, recruitment, assessment, training, job supports, job development, placement & retention. Training and a minimum of 3 Certifications: Core includes 62 hours of instruction and certifications in HAZWOPER, pesticide safety and forklift operation. An additional 122 hours of instruction and certifications/licenses offered in asbestos remediation, lead abatement, asbestos inspection, heavy motor vehicle with hazmat and OSHA 10- hour general industry/construction safety.

SLIDE 8 Success Story: Steven J. Rivera Centeno
Steven was an underemployed, part-time security guard, earning $8.00/hour. His goal was to secure stable, full-time work to support his family. Steven enrolled in our EWDJT program. He successfully completed training and obtained his licenses and certifications in HAZWOPER with Confined Space Permit; Pesticide Safety; OSHA10 Safety, and Forklift Operation. As a result, Steven
- btained a full-time position and a promotion at his
place of employment, Universal Protection Services. Today, Steven is succeeding in his new position— Coordinator and Security Manager—and working full time in a chemical plant earning $18.00 per hour. In PathStone’s EWDJT program, Steven obtained the skills, certifications and licenses that enabled him to
- btain full-time work and a promotion, generating
significantly more income to support his family and exceeding his goals. Congratulations, Steven!

As an integral part of their training, including Coastal Erosion workshops, youth visited the Bioluminescent Bay
- f Vieques, the Wildlife Refuge,
the Tapón Bay, the Dry Forest and Caracas Beach to learn about plants and algae, and to carry out water and sand sampling. Many thanks to the Vieques Conservation and History Trust and the Sea Grant Organization – their support contributed to the success of this program.

Youth shared environmental and emergency preparedness learnings with residents, and distributed information and Emergency Backpacks with water filters, battery backups, solar lights, hand sanitizer, First Aid Kits, flashlights, and whistles. Youth conducted a Community Campaign for residents on how to prepare for storms, cyclones and hurricanes. Youth enjoyed the Community Campaign as a capstone that celebrated their achievements. At an informal Graduation, youth received Certificates for successfully completing the Youth and the Environment Program requirements.
