  • Road crossing

Dismount from bicycles, scooters, etc Continue to teach the children to observe safe crossing

  • To queue and wait for the public bus and not push their way up.

Regular checks will be done by teachers and security officers BUT children must own the responsibility

  • Dropping off at Block 120

Prepare the child for prompt alighting Keep schoolbags with the child and not in the boot, if possible

slide-8
SLIDE 8

Attendance

  • Pupils who are absent from school due to sickness must

produce a medical certificate ( MC).

  • If the reason is non-medical , (e.g. bereavement) , a letter is

required.

  • Inform the form teacher when child is unable to attend

school (SMS, email).

  • School does not encourage pupils to take leave of absence

during term time to travel abroad. This is to ensure continuation and consistency of learning. Request has to be submitted to school leaders.

slide-9
SLIDE 9

Examinations

  • No marks will be given when a pupil is absent without

medical certificate (MC) . A letter from the parent / guardian will not be accepted in this case.

  • For pupils who do not produce an MC, a ZERO will be

given for that subject.

  • There will be no re-sitting of written examination

papers for pupils. MC will be reflected in the result slip. For pupils who are absent with MC, marks will be pro- rated.

  • An “MC “ will be reflected in the result slip.
  • Only valid reasons such as the death of closed

among pupils with different strengths Why introduce Subject-Based Banding?

slide-13
SLIDE 13

Geylang Methodist School (Primary)

  • Removal of streams in Primary 5 and 6
  • Every child will be encouraged to do the

subjects at the levels that best meet his/her abilities (i.e. Standard or Foundation)

What Subject-Based Banding means

for your child

slide-14
SLIDE 14

Geylang Methodist School (Primary)

What Parents Need to Know

  • Scores in Foundation subjects would be lower compared to

Standard subjects as the PSLE score. Scores will take into account the difference in content and demand of any foundation subject(s) taken.

  • Based on performance at PSLE, pupils taking 4 Standard

subjects may be posted to: Express , Normal Academic, Normal Technical.

  • Pupils offering at least 2 Foundation subjects will most likely be

channelled to Normal Academic stream in secondary school.

slide-29
SLIDE 29

Geylang Methodist School (Primary)

What Parents Need to Know

  • Pupils taking 3 Foundation subjects and 1

Standard subject could qualify for Normal Academic course if they do very well.

  • Pupils taking Foundation and Standard

subjects could be in the same class.

slide-30
SLIDE 30

Geylang Methodist School (Primary)

Pupil Placement Issues

  • Current policies will apply for ad hoc

transfers and admissions

  • Subject combination a pupil takes at

receiving school will be determined jointly by school and parents

slide-31
SLIDE 31

Geylang Methodist School (Primary)

Selection Criteria

  • Based on P4 mid-year and end-of-the

year examination data

slide-32
SLIDE 32

Geylang Methodist School (Primary)

How does Subject-Based Banding work?

  • At P4 – Pupil sits for school-based exams

Based on pupil’s results, school recommends a subject combination. Parents fill up option form indicating preferred combination.

slide-33
SLIDE 33

Geylang Methodist School (Primary)

Parental Option

  • When exercising your option WITH your

child, please opt wisely…

  • For a subject combination that matches your child’s

capability, NOT

  • What your other children were capable of
  • What you want of your child
  • Where your child’s preferences are
slide-34
SLIDE 34

Geylang Methodist School (Primary)

Parental Option

  • Opt for the course and not the class as the

school decides on your child’s class based on their results and not the course.

  • Submit your option form on time.
