THE CHALLENGE

TERMINOLOGY

• Face-t o-face teaching refers to instruction in which the teacher

and the student s are in the same room at the same time.

• Online teaching refers to instruction which takes place via the

internet . I t can be synchronous (e.g. a Zoom session) or asynchronous (e.g. a discussion board).

• Hybrid teaching is that which involves some mix of face-t o-

face and online teaching. Some use the term more specifically; some more generally.

• HyFlex teaching refers to a set of teaching strategies that

allow student s to choose how they want to engage: face-t o- face, synchronous online, or asynchronous online.
