Then his army burned the Temple of God, tore down the walls

  • f Jerusalem, burned all the palaces, and completely

destroyed everything of value. 20 The few who survived were taken as exiles to Babylon, and they became servants to the king and his sons until the kingdom of Persia came to power. 21 So the message of the Lord spoken through Jeremiah was fulfilled. The land finally enjoyed its Sabbath rest, lying desolate until the seventy years were fulfilled, just as the prophet had said. 2 Chronicles 36:19-21 (NLT)

“Remember to observe the Sabbath day by keeping it holy. 9 You have six days each week for your ordinary work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath day of rest dedicated to the Lord your

  • God. On that day no one in your household may do any work. This

includes you, your sons and daughters, your male and female servants, your livestock, and any foreigners living among you. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens, the earth, the sea, and everything in them; but on the seventh day he rested. That is why the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and set it apart as holy. Exodus 20:8-11 (NLT)

But I took a solemn oath against them in the

  • wilderness. I swore I would scatter them among all

the nations 24 because they did not obey my

  • regulations. They scorned my decrees by violating my

Sabbath days and longing for the idols of their

  • ancestors. 25 I gave them over to worthless decrees

and regulations that would not lead to life. Ezekiel 20:23-25 (NLT)

Day Off Sabbath

Finish: unpaid work: errands, laundry, yardwork. Stop: Embrace your limits. The todo list is always there. Go: Activities that deplete you. Rest: Activities that restore and replenish. Obligations: Things that you “should” get done. Delight: What brings you joy? Nature? Family? Food? Numb: Fill up on busy-ness. No time for reflection, processing, being. Contemplate: Drawing closer to

  • God. Increased awareness of His

presence-of what He is doing in

  • you. Emotional awareness.

❑ Pick a day. Treat it different. ❑ Turn off the news. ❑ Talk to God. ❑ No “shoulds”. ❑ Say “no”. ❑ Save a cherished activity that brings you delight. Expectation. ❑ Feast day. No self-imposed limits. ❑ Be with yourself, feelings, and God.

(What are you mad, sad, glad or anxious about?)

❑ Talk to someone who make you smile.

This is what the Sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says: “Only in returning to Me and resting in Me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it. 16 You said, ‘No, we will get our help from Egypt. They will give us swift horses for riding into battle.’ But the only swiftness you are going to see is the swiftness of your enemies chasing you! Isaiah 30:15-16 (NLT)

17 One of them will chase a thousand of you. Five of them will make all of you flee. You will be left like a lonely flagpole on a hill

  • r a tattered banner on a distant mountaintop.”

18 So the Lord must wait for you to come to Him so He can show you His love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for His help. Isaiah 30:17-18 (NLT)
