 Students who entered 9th grade in 2011-12 and

beyond must take End of Course (EOC) tests for the courses they are enrolled.

 Students in the classes of 2013 & 2014 will continue

to take the TAKS tests.

 Total of 15 EOC’s for the graduating Class of 2015  A student who receives high school credit out of

state/ country or from a private school, prior to enrolling in a TX school, for a course assessed by STAAR/EOC is not required to take that assessment

 Compared to TAKS, STAAR has

› More tests › Increased difficulty, rigor and complexity › 4-hour time limit › Cumulative scoring requirements

slide-5
SLIDE 5

 LEVEL III: Advanced academic performance

 LEVEL II: Satisfactory academic performance  LEVEL I: Unsatisfactory academic performance

› Level I Unsatisfactory – (above minimum)

 Student is encouraged to retest

› Level I Unsatisfactory – (below minimum)

 Student must retest

 The scores from all three tests in the same

core subject area are added together to get a cumulative score

 A student could achieve the minimum

score on all three tests and not meet the cumulative score requirement

› Retaking tests would be necessary even though

minimum score was met

 Distinguished Achievement Program (DAP)

› Must take all 15 EOC tests › Must meet the cumulative score requirement in

each of the four subject areas.

› Must achieve Level III on the Algebra II and

English III Reading and Writing tests.

 Recommended High School Plan (RHSP) › (Required by all 4-year colleges in Texas) › Must take all 15 EOC tests › Must meet cumulative score requirements in each

  • f the four core subject areas.

› Must achieve Level II on Algebra II and English III

Reading and Writing tests.

 Minimum High School Plan (MHSP) › Not accepted at all 4-year colleges/universities › May exclude the following tests:  Algebra II  Chemistry  Physics  World History › Cumulative score requirement is reduced

slide-12
SLIDE 12

 Tests will be administered three times a year › Spring (initial testing) › Summer (retest) › December (retest) › May (retest)  A student must retake an EOC test that does

not meet the minimum score.

 Students may retake EOC tests as many times

as they choose.

 The Class of 2015 (current 10th graders) who

took Algebra I in 7th grade and Geometry in 8th grade for the years 2009-10 and 2010-11 were not required to take the EOC for Algebra I or Geometry. They would have taken the Algebra II EOC as a 9th grader for the year 2011-12.

 The Class of 2016(current LFHS 9th graders)

who took Algebra I in Jr. High last year were required to take that EOC.

slide-15
SLIDE 15

 Commit to making the highest semester grade and EOC

score possible – EOC score will be 15% of the overall course grade. (The Commissioner of Education delayed this implementation on 11/30/12).

 Attend class each day  Keep track of retest needs  Attend intervention sessions  Communicate with your counselor, teacher, parents

about your testing needs

slide-16
SLIDE 16

 Stay informed about EOC scoring and

practices

 Encourage your child to excel in all EOC

courses and score a Level II or higher

 Access online portal to your student’s scores.

http://www.TexasAssessment.com/students - enter

access code found on student’s score report  Communicate with teachers, counselors,

administrators and your son/daughter
