Goals for 2020-21

  • Ensure safety and security for each of our scholars and

educators

  • Provide maximum flexibility to families to ensure they feel

supported and student needs are met

  • Provide the best education possible for each of our 730

students, acknowledging the myriad of different needs and also the differences related to age and maturation

  • Continue to grow/develop relationships as we work

together in a school community

Victories and Challenges-COVID-19

Victories

  • Teachers, students and families

quickly responded

  • 100% of district technology

dispatched to students for home use

  • Improved relationships in many

cases due to personalization

  • Developed ways to deliver food,

materials to the doorstep of students

  • Flexibility for all stakeholders

Challenges

  • Not all students engaged or

were able to engage

  • Educators have varying levels of

expertise and provided varying levels of support

  • Families struggled to juggle

personal needs, work needs, supervision needs, educational needs

  • Distance learning just doesn’t

work well for many students

slide-5
SLIDE 5

Educational Program Options for District Consideration

  • Continuous Learning 2.0 (Online learning plus opportunities

for asynchronous learning experiences)

  • Split or Rotating Schedules (with continuous remote

learning)

  • Two-day rotation, A/B rotation, or two-week rotation
  • Phased-in Opening (with remote learning by grade level)
  • School would be open for some groups of students such as PK-3

and other grades would access remote learning. Grades 4-6 would be phased in when physical distancing restrictions are lifted.

  • Face to Face Instruction for All Students
slide-6
SLIDE 6

North Beach Plan as of 7.1.2020

  • Pre-K through 5th Grade: Daily, full-day instruction for all

students in grades Pre-K through 5th Grade

  • Alternating, A/B schedule for students in grades 6-12, with

daily online/at home learning expectations for all students in all courses

  • Some students in 6-12 may be required to attend daily to meet

individualized educational needs

slide-7
SLIDE 7

What will this look like?

Goal: Predictable daily/weekly schedule that parents can count on that delivers high quality instruction to each student. August 1-10: Parents will be able to indicate their preference for 20-21, Semester 1, for “in school” instruction or 100% remote learning. Pre-K-5th Grade: Students will be in school all day, each day. All building staff will partner to ensure social distancing/safety guidelines are practiced. Grades 6-12: Each school day in Semester 1 will be color coded yellow or black, alternating. Students will be assigned and expected to attend on either yellow or black days.

slide-8
SLIDE 8

What if I just don’t feel comfortable sending my scholar to their school building?

  • Your student can still experience the daily lessons taught

inside the classroom in other ways.

  • Student/parent partners with school staff to complete grade

level/content packets to learn and demonstrate mastery

  • Zoom into Live Classroom Lessons
  • Access from home, virtual blended learning (much in the same

way as we supported students, Spring 2020)

  • Watch Recorded Classroom Lessons
  • For learners who might not be available at each of the scheduled

lessons offered throughout the school day, the lessons may be recorded for viewing at a later time.

What happens if a student/staff show COVID-19 symptoms at school

gown, face covering, face shield and gloves

  • Air out and then clean and disinfect the areas where the person

was after they leave

  • Parent will inform school right away if person is diagnosed with

COVID-19

  • If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, the local

DOH will advise

  • It is likely that many of the student’s classmates will be considered

close contacts and need to be quarantined for 14 days
