NSI Implications on NMO

The consequences of this feature is the uncertainty encountered in fitting of a particular mass

  • rdering model to experimental data.

For instance, an experimentally observed event spectrum might look like either

  • r .

This mass ordering - sign of NSI degeneracy can make the determination of mass ordering more difficult => a higher precision is required to disentangle the mass orderings. The test statistic under consideration is The toy data is simulated with different possible NSIs and the NSI parameters are treated as a systematics in the in the fit. 8

One-NSI

The appearance channel Pe𝜈 is affected by ϵe𝜈 and ϵe𝜐. The red dotted line gives the NMO sensitivity for Std. Oscillations. The NMO sensitivity is diluted in presence of NSI
 ϵe𝜈 and ϵe𝜐. 9

One-NSI

The muon survival channel P𝜈𝜈 is affected by ϵ𝜈𝜐 and ϵ𝜐𝜐. The red dotted line gives the NMO sensitivity for Std. Oscillations. No significant impact of ϵ𝜈𝜐 and ϵ𝜐𝜐 is foreseen on NMO sensitivity. (The effect is washed out once marginalised over
 the NSI parameter.) 10

Multiple NSIs

The test statistic under consideration is The toy data is simulated assuming Std. Oscillations. NSI parameters are treated as systematics while fitting over the wrong ordering (IO). The effect of individual NSI on the NMO
sensitivity is estimated by releasing them
in succession in the fit. A dilution of 1𝜏 in NMO sensitivity is
