HUD’s Smoke-free Housing Rule

(SmokeLess NYCHA)

16

By July 30, 2018 NYCHA must implement a smoke-free policy that prohibits the use

  • f cigarettes and other

prohibited tobacco products in certain areas:

  • Public housing indoor common

areas (already covered)

  • Administrative office buildings

(already covered)

  • Public housing units (NEW)
  • Outdoor areas within a 25 foot

perimeter of residential and administrative buildings (NEW)

I hope that residents welcome the smoke- free rule, and that it is successful. I hope that people like me will be able to quit smoking. I’m concerned that people will disregard the policy, and will continue to smoke in the building. I’m concerned that people, such as myself, won’t be able to quit.
