Sankhuwasabha District is located in northern area of Province 1. The administrative center is Khandbari, which is the main departure point for trekking to Mt. Makalu, the 5th highest peak in the world and is 50km to the north. Tumlingtar is the main airport for reaching Makalu and trekking routes are present to reach the base camp.
