Since inception 7 years ago KURA has been able to upgrade, construct and maintain over 12,000km of roads in the country most of them in Nairobi City County. Nairobi population is over 4m and the day’s population is about 7m (Includes people from the nearby towns e.g Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu) This leads to: - 1. Heavy traffic flows during peak hours 2. Traffic management demands outstripping the resources 3. Inadequate infrastructure facilities

Nairobi Urban Transport Master Plan 2006 and the Nairobi Integrated Urban Development Plan’ (NIUPLAN), 2014 were developed through funding from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) KURA is implementing the road infrastructure components of these Plans Some of the completed projects under these master plans include: 1. Dualling of Langata Road from Kenya Wildlife Service to Bomas of Kenya 2. Improvement of Eastleigh Roads Phase 1 3. Improvement of Upperhill Roads Phase 1 4. Construction of Northern Bypass 5. Construction of Eastern Bypass 6. Construction of Nairobi Western Ring Roads
