 Since inception 7 years ago KURA has been able to upgrade, construct and maintain over 12,000km of roads in the country most of them in Nairobi City County.  Nairobi population is over 4m and the day’s population is about 7m (Includes people from the nearby towns e.g Kajiado, Machakos, Kiambu)  This leads to: - 1. Heavy traffic flows during peak hours 2. Traffic management demands outstripping the resources 3. Inadequate infrastructure facilities

 Nairobi Urban Transport Master Plan 2006 and the Nairobi Integrated Urban Development Plan’ (NIUPLAN), 2014 were developed through funding from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)  KURA is implementing the road infrastructure components of these Plans  Some of the completed projects under these master plans include: 1. Dualling of Langata Road from Kenya Wildlife Service to Bomas of Kenya 2. Improvement of Eastleigh Roads Phase 1 3. Improvement of Upperhill Roads Phase 1 4. Construction of Northern Bypass 5. Construction of Eastern Bypass 6. Construction of Nairobi Western Ring Roads
