  2. Objectives As a result of today’s workshop you will... ● Learn how your student has utilized Naviance thus far ● Understand what features of Naviance your student will be using in the future ● Be able to assist your student with their post-secondary planning by using Naviance

Parent Login ● Log onto bhs.bps101.net ● Scroll over the “Parents” link at the top of the page – click on “Naviance” ● You will be on the Naviance Family Connection page ● YOU NEED TO REQUEST A LOGIN ● email your student’s counselor for a registration code ● Once you have registered, you will create a permanent username and password ● Can link previous student accounts!

Features of Naviance ● High school course planning ● Career exploration ● College planning ● Resume building ● Creating a game plan ● Requesting letters of recommendation ● Requesting transcripts for college ● Researching colleges ● Searching for scholarships ● Sign up for college rep visits ● Journal college visits ● View standardized test scores ● Helpful links

  5. Freshmen ● In the fall, there is a mandatory “Freshman 101” presentation during late start. Topics include: course planning, GPA, academic rigor, extra curricular activities, academic support, social emotional support, dual credit courses, and sophomore registration. ● Naviance Pre survey and Post survey. ● In the Fall and Spring we facilitate a “Course Planning” presentation during all Freshman English classes. Students will complete their four-year course plan using Naviance. Freshmen will use this tool to align their classes at the high school with their post-secondary goals.

  6. Sophomores ● Fall Sophomore Presentation - Naviance Pre and Post Surveys ○ Presentation given during Late Starts in the Fall. Focus of presentation includes the following: goal setting for sophomore year, college majors to career connections, introduction to college applications and what colleges will be looking for, junior year course selection and postsecondary options. ● Sophomore Career/Course Planning Workshop offered in sophomore English Classes. ○ Students complete Career Profiler, Cluster Finder and a Course Plan in Naviance.

College Planning Tools ● College Research ● SuperMatch, college match, college compare, college lookup, college search, college resources, college maps, scattergrams, acceptance history ● Pin and keep track of colleges of interest ● Document applications to colleges and status of acceptance ● Journal college visit experiences ● Sign up for college visits at BHS

  8. College Search On the main page, click on the “Colleges” and then on “SuperMatch” found under college research.

  10. SuperMatch Click the heart to “favorite” the schools you are thinking about. This will add the college to your “Colleges I’m Thinking About” list

  11. College Search In the “colleges I’m thinking about” section, you can see application deadlines, get direct access to the college’s website, and see analysis of past applicants

  12. College Search If you click on the name of the school, you can see information how your scores compare to the average student accepted.

  13. Analysis of past applicants (U of I) If you click on “GRAPH” you can see an analysis of past Batavia applicants.

  14. Colleges I’m applying to ● After reviewing list of “Colleges I’m Thinking About”, you can move them to “Colleges I’m Applying To” ● When you click on the name of the school, there is a direct link to “Apply Online” and “Request Info.” Note: Most colleges begin accepting applications Sept. 1

  15. Requesting transcripts Once a student adds schools to their “colleges I’m applying to” list: ● Click request transcripts. We cannot send transcripts for seniors until Sept. 1 per NACAC guidelines ● We will send them within 2 weeks of receiving request

  16. Requesting recommendation letters For privacy purposes, only students are permitted to enter requests for letters of recommendation

Sign up for college visits ● Click the “colleges” tab at the top of the page, on the right will be “Upcoming college visits”, click “view all upcoming visits”. ● Learn more information or click “sign up” and you can sign up through Naviance. Search for Scholarships ● In “Colleges” tab – scroll down to “Scholarship list”

  19. About Me ● The “About Me” tab allows students to create and upload their resume. ○ Teachers and counselors will need this in order to write letters of recommendation. ● Students can also add their game plan that will let teachers know future goals/majors/careers.

Communication ● Naviance allows us to share information with you and your student about upcoming meetings and events, local scholarship opportunities, and other Web resources for college and career information. ● Naviance and Batavia High School are committed to protecting your privacy, we will not share personal information without your consent. Personal information will not be shared with any companies or groups.
