What is Dual Credit (DC)?

  • Dual Credit is a voluntary program in

which qualified Junior and Senior students may enroll in courses that receive both college and high school credit.

  • LVISD will be partnering with Angelo State

University (ASU) - Member of the Texas Tech University System and St. Philip’s College to provide dual credit academic coursework.

slide-5
SLIDE 5

Benefits

  • Courses earn both high school and college

credits.

  • Low cost tuition!
  • Challenging coursework prepares students for the

rigor of college work.

  • Weighted GPA points awarded on HS transcript
  • Shows colleges you were driven to take more

challenging courses and therefore may impact college acceptance.

slide-6
SLIDE 6

Transferable Credit

  • Students may earn transferable

college credit hours. Public/state colleges and universities usually accept DC hours.

  • DO NOT ASSUME THAT DUAL CREDIT

HOURS WILL TRANSFER. CHECK WITH THE COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY.

slide-7
SLIDE 7

College Hours

  • The acceptance of the hours

as core or elective is at the discretion of the college.

Course Delivery - On Campus

฀ Course instruction is delivered in one of two ways:

  • 1. On Campus Instruction - On campus

courses are taught on the LVHS campus by LVHS teachers who are qualified as adjunct instructors through Alamo Community Colleges and Angelo State University.

slide-9
SLIDE 9

Course Delivery - Online

  • 2. Online Instruction:

– Some DC courses are taught online. All instruction and interaction with the professor is done electronically. – Because the course is a college course, the Family Education Right and Privacy Act (FERPA) laws deny parental access to professors and/or grades. – Online students MUST be self disciplined and mature.

slide-10
SLIDE 10

Course Delivery - Online Continued

  • The professor teaching an online course may
  • r may not know that a student enrolled in

the course is a high school student. The course requirements and expectations are those required and expected of every college student.

  • Students enrolled in online courses are

assigned a DC Computer Lab period for each course taken. Students have the time and

  • pportunity to complete and submit their

work during the computer lab period.
