Natural de-stress & calming How it works • The unique Pet Remedy blend of essential oils helps calm the nerves of anxious or stressed pets. • Pet Remedy works with the pet’s own natural calming mechanisms by enhancing production of GABA (gamma amino butyric acid) a natural chemical produced by the brain, transmitted from nerve to nerve as a calming message when the body is stressed. • In other words the active ingredients in the special Pet Remedy blend will sit on the cell receptor as if a GABA molecule was sitting on it, and that activates (excites) the receptor into giving the cell the message to calm. Explained by Dr. Flo Watt MRCPsych (Consultant Psychiatrist ) • The formulation is predominantly Valerian oil based with a small inclusion of Vetiver (from Indonesia), and even smaller inclusions of Basil and Sage essential oils (from France). • Many Valerian preparations are too potent and can sedate rather than calm. Pet Remedy is a low concentration valerian blend and the diffuser delivers a constant slow release, which is very kind and gentle in its effect on the metabolism.
Natural de-stress & calming Effectiveness of Valerian • Valerian absolute oil is obtained by cold extraction from the root of the plant Valeriana Officinalis, and has been used for centuries as an effective and safe calming agent. • We constantly strive to source the highest quality natural essential oils and extracts to create our Pet Remedy formulation . We are now sourcing our Valerian oil from Europe rather than China, with an improved oil extraction technique resulting in a much darker colour. • Obtaining the Valerian oil by cold extraction ensures all the beneficial natural chemicals from the Valerian roots are retained and gives a more consistent oil compared to Chinese extraction by traditional steam distillation which can damage some of these elements. • A further bonus is that the European Valerian oil is more floral in odour than the Chinese source. It is great for use at many different stressful times like bonding, holidays, house guests, fireworks and vet visits. The spray is water based so can be applied in small amounts direct to the animals fur to help with scent swapping (for bonding) as well as being in the atmosphere. I look forward to the new battery spray as this will be great for people with outdoor bunnies that cannot use a plug in diffuser. Natural de-stress & calming Evidence – Clinical Evidence Valerian (essential oil is obtained by distillation from the root of the plant Valeriana Officinalis) has been used for centuries as an effective and safe calming agent. There is ample anecdotal evidence of its efficacy and more recently, published research, identified via Medline. The paper published in 2004 in Anaesthesia and Analgesia by Yuan et al. adds to this by showing the valerian produces its effect by modulating the GABA receptor functioning (as an agonist). Whilst the paper shows in vitro results, the clinical effectiveness strongly suggests it crosses the blood/brain barrier in sufficient quantities.
