  2. What is Music In Devon Initiative? MIDI is a non-profit-making organisation which has been founded to develop emerging talent, increase opportunities for musicians and generate business for the music industry in Devon. MIDI is keen to involve the wider musical community in what we do and support other community projects and networks where we can.

  3. The solar powered stage! u As an event organiser concerned with the environment I have been fascinated by the excellent initiative festivals like Green Gathering and Small World have taken in producing energy efficient PA systems utilising renewable power such as solar, wind and pedal power. As a newly formed CIC, MIDI is still building up resources to facilitate the services we would like to deliver. u A small PA system mounted on a trolley utilising solar power would be ideal for many of the events we organise and support. Our annual Exeter Street Arts Festival would benefit greatly from a simple stage like this. It would solve several logistical problems of transport and equipment but it would also mean that non-green power could be avoided, eliminating unnecessary generator use and trip hazard cables. u The equipment could also be hired to for example ECC, guildhall, Princesshay, schools & I have a provisional booking from Exeter Respect festival, and hiring to other small festivals and individual busking acts could make the project more sustainable with potential to develop further. I would hope that offering a solar PA for events in the Exeter area would create an awareness and a demand for the technology involved as well as saving power during the events.

  4. Who are will the stage benefit? u The project would benefit the patrons and organisers of community events we already support such as Fore Street Flea and Gandy Street Festival in that we would be able to better facilitate and support musical showcases. It would benefit our organisation to be able to offer a solar stage service and it would benefit other community events that we could then hire the stage to them cheaply. u Being able to provide a definite product such as a solar stage makes the transaction more appealing to potential purchasers such as ECC, Princesshay or schools. The SoundTribe project that works with home- school children would also benefit from the solar stage for practices and performances in unconventional locations – such as in field or by a wood. Being able to clearly brand the truck with ECOE & Midi information will be good for awareness raising for both groups.

  5. Need for solar PA u There is not as far as I am aware an affordable solar PA available for hire in the Exeter area. We are in the process of conducting survey research into local musicians needs – but from the MIDI directors joint experience of managing community benefiting PA systems and events we predict that there will be reasonable demand. u The few community festivals and arts orgs I have contacted have shown interest in booking the PA system for their events including Respect Festival, Off the grid Festival & Organic Arts based at west town farm, Ide.
