SLIDE 2 Who are we?
- We are members of the inaugural Hays CISD School Board and
Superintendent’s Student Advisory Panel
- We are current 10th-12th grade students who attend either Hays High School,
Lehman High School, or Live Oak Academy.
- In September 2017, we had to apply to be a part of the panel. Our
applications were reviewed by staff on our campus, and then we were selected to be the representatives of the student body on our campus.
- The purpose of our panel is to ensure that Hays CISD School Board Members
and Administrators are hearing student voice on important issues throughout
- ur district.
- We meet once a month during the school day to discuss a variety of issues.
Some issues are brought to us by the Board and/or Administration. Some issues are brought up by us.
SLIDE 3 Who are we?
- Issues we have discussed so far:
- What was the best way to open High School #3 (it wasn’t named at that time).
- We recommended to the Board and Administration that it should open as a 9th & 10th grade
campus instead of all four grades.
- We were updated and gave our thoughts regarding, among other things:
- Ongoing construction projects
- The search for the new Superintendent
- New elementary attendance zones
- Naming of the two new schools
- Dual credit vs. AP courses, how GPA is calculated, class ranking and how that is different
depending upon the campus you attend
- We took a visit to the Hays CISD Data Center
- And we have begun some discussions about campus safety
- Then we were given our first project of creating a process for the selection of the mascot a school
colors for Johnson High School, the school had a name by this time, and that is why we are here with you this evening.

- The process:
- We thought it was best for the entire community to have an
- pportunity to nominate options for the school colors and
mascot.
- Once those were collected, we viewed them to determine the
final options for a vote.
- We thought that all current 6th-12th grade students in the
district should have the option to vote.
- Voting was concluded on Friday, March 9th, and we reviewed
the results at our March meeting on Wednesday, March 21st.
