DISCONNECT

  • The church is a place

to meet personal needs — spiritual, relational, social, physical (Acts 2:42)

RECONNECT

  • The church is a means

through which God meets the needs of the world (Acts 1:8)

DON’T JUST “GO” TO CHURCH

We ought to be more scattered on mission, than gathered all the time

“BE” THE CHURCH!

slide-7
SLIDE 7

THE CHURCH IS…

…the people of God, who are called by God & sent by God for the glory of God to meet the needs

  • f the world with God.
slide-8
SLIDE 8

DISCONNECT

  • We see missions as
  • ne of the many

programs of church in which we may or may not participate

RECONNECT

  • Missions is not a

program of the church. Mission defines the church.

Missions The Missions Committee focuses on the support of missionaries locally and overseas. They also determine which missionaries we support and how we support them.

  • ther places to do

WHAT IS HOLDING US BACK?

  • Cocoon
  • Combat
  • Conform

The Culturally Savvy Christian by Dick Staub

slide-12
SLIDE 12

COCOON

  • Harsh & Unfriendly world
  • World can be tempting
  • Hunker down & stay within

Christian circles

Remember John 17:15

Has your personal holiness & purity become your primary goal?

slide-13
SLIDE 13

COMBAT

  • People are not the enemy
  • PEOPLE ARE THE PRIZE!

Remember Ephesians 6:12

Do you truly love people?

slide-14
SLIDE 14

CONFORM

Small compromises, a.k.a. tolerance, can be a slippery slope

Are you conforming to the world?

Remember Matt. 5:13-16 and Romans 12:2

slide-15
SLIDE 15

ARE YOU A LAME DUCK?

Are you more committed to holiness than to humanity? Are you more committed to the world than to the Lord? Do you look more like Jonah or Jesus?

Jesus, our perfect model, totally committed His life to humanity without ever ceasing to be holy.

Christianity is a “go and tell” life more than it is a “come and see” religion.
