  2. What is Troeir Nua? • Treoir Nua is a programme developed by Coláiste Iósaef Community College. • It aims to prepare pupils and parents for post- primary education • The programme is designed to support the transition process from primary school to post-primary school.

  3. Programme Aims This programme aims to increase the levels of • confidence • readiness in sixth class pupils and guide them through the initial weeks of first year in post-primary level education.

  4. Who is it for? The programme consists of a pupil element and a parent element, and aims to help both students and parents to understand that a new school can provide an opportunity for a fresh start, as well as many enjoyable experiences.

  5. Programme Objectives The objectives of the programme are that pupils and parents • Gain knowledge of the structure of our school day • Learn about the structure of the school • Recognise and understand the need for our school rules • Explore the school syllabus, new subjects and subject choice available to them • Gain confidence to combat fears/anxieties about starting in a new school • Become familiar with the support-system available to them in the school

Programme Activities a) Preparation – providing pupils and parents with information about the nature of post-primary education, the structure of the school day, the structure of the staff system and the support network b) Transfer - a more in-depth look at what to expect, where to go and what is required for beginning post-primary school c) Induction – orientation and knowledge of the new school system. This takes place before and at the beginning of their post-primary school experience d) Consolidation – once pupils have adapted to their new environment, they are presented with opportunities to acquire the skills necessary to be responsible for their own learning in post-primary school

  24. School Attendance • Important to be in school everyday • 20+ days absent without notification/satisfactory explanation – referral to EWO • School Policy – Notification on 10 days & 15 days – phone, letter from the Year Head

  25. School Transport 2020/2021 • Bus Éireann Routes • Login to www.buseireann.ie – School Transport Section • 2020/2021 Applications – Open until last Friday in April (24/04/2020) • Only new pupils apply – Register/Login • Cost is €350 • Medical card holders are exempt from payment

Book Rental Scheme 2020/2021 – Books are provided by the school. – Administrated by school management and the Parents Association. – Average cost to buy books from 1 st – 3 rd year is €550-€600 – With the book scheme its €100 x 3 years = €300 – Deposit of €50 which can roll over – Up front cost in 1 st Year is €150 – Terms and Conditions apply – Support of all is needed for it to be successful
