Philosophy
Recruiting -
- Get Recruited in Five Easy Steps by Trevor Tierney
“Two people are in control of whether or not a player gets recruited for college.”
1st person is the player – how hard he works at his game, how passionate he is about it and how much of a priority he makes it in his life 2nd person is the COLLEGE Coach – he knows exactly what type of player and people he is looking for
1. You have to be the best player that you can possibly be
- Division 1 lacrosse takes the top 1% of all lacrosse players
- What you lack in talent can be made up with desire, hustle and giving 110%
- Earn the respect of your coaches by knowing the playbook better than any other player, study film
and become film room junkie
2. You have to go where the coaches are
- Align yourself with a good organized club team that goes to reputable tournaments
- Club coaches can be a great support and liaison between college coaches and players
3. Seeing who has serious interest in you as a player
- Understand the difference between being recruited and a coach showing interest
- Coaches are watching and observing everything you do and who you are with
4. Respond back to the coaches that reach out to you
- If a coach sends you anything, use his as an opportunity to reach back out. Send him back an e-
mail with a link to your highlight film
- When contacting coaches find out the assistant coach that is in charge of recruiting
5. Congratulations if you made it this far!
- Decision making time – choose the right school for you, not the one showing the most interest
SLIDE 8
Philosophy
Practices -
- We firmly believe that our practices translate into habits, which in turn prepare
- ur players for both success on and off the field
- We will implement multiple drills, routines and offensive/defensive strategies
used by some of the best high schools and colleges in the country
- We will develop scripted practice schedules for each and every practice
- We will plan out every minute of every practice, so it is critical to make sure
you are on-time
- We are investing a lot of time, preparation and energy into each and every
practice… miss a day miss a lot!
- Practice times
- We will be setting the practice schedule one week at a time
- 6:45 to 8:45 will be the time slot for most of our season
- We will practice rain or shine
SLIDE 9
Practices -
- We expect every player to be on-time, ready to play for every practice and game
- If practice starts at 6:45pm that means we expect each player to be dressed
and ready to go at 6:45pm
- Any missed practices or games must be approved by the coaches
- Excused absence – If you are too sick to come to school then you are too
sick to practice or play in a game
- Examples of unexcused absences:
I have tickets to a Cavs Game I have dodge ball I have a date with my girlfriend I have a driving test
- Get your homework completed in between the end of school and practice
Philosophy
SLIDE 10
Philosophy
Conditioning -
- Our drills are set up to constantly move during practice and we expect our players
to run from drill to drill
- We want to maximize every minute of every practice, to take time to run laps or
get players in shape we feel is counter-productive
- The only time we will run as team is if we feel that discipline is needed
- We may ask players to run laps on an individual basis as a form of discipline
- r to get focused
Commitment -
- Team First
- We believe in playing as a team, which means no one is more important
than the team
- We will win as a team and lose as a team
- We expect 100% effort out of every player
SLIDE 11
Philosophy
Leadership & Culture -
- We believe that team chemistry is crucial for the short-term and long-term success
- f this program
- It starts with the coaches but needs to come from players
- Everyone needs to be on the same page
- The success of the 2014 Season will be determined by the Leadership on this team
- If we can become a cohesive unit we can accomplish our goal this year of winning
a State Championship
SLIDE 12
Playing Time -
- Playing to Win – Our goal is to win a State Championship
- We may ask certain players to switch positions
- We will play the best players regardless of grade
- Grievances - We ask that you please understand that we have only the best
interest of the team in mind
- We would prefer to handle all issues coach to player
- During the season we will not discuss Playing Time with any Parent
- During a game the field and bench area is reserved for team personnel only
Philosophy
SLIDE 13

by participating in the Pig Roast Fund-raiser we’re having later this fall. Details:

On-line fund-raising is -
- Easy for the fund-raiser & donor
- Incredibly efficient…very large ‘reach’
- Reaches outside of Chagrin to friends,
family, business associates etc.
- Requires almost no work….just fun!!
How does it work?
- Each player & coach is set up with a fund-
raising page
- Log in, upload your email list and…..
- Send the emails
- Instructions will be sent out and they will
be posted on ww.chagrinathletics.org
- Watch the donations come in!!
Fund-raiser
SLIDE 21
How does it work (Continued)?
- Main ‘Homepage’ for our event:
www.fundly.com/chagrinlax This page will be where our total donations are ‘rolled-up’ and totaled
- All funds go into the CFHS Lacrosse account
at First Federal of Lakewood and will be handed over to the school once all funds are in.
- We’re setting the goal high for the program
to cover things like: Program needs including spring breaks, uniform upgrades, chow-downs, other in- season needs
Fund-raiser
SLIDE 22
Additional Event Details -
- Last year we raised well over $20,000 for our needs….including Spring Break trip,
bags, shooting-shirts etc.
- Estimate is made on how many will attend based on donations
- Burntwood has agreed to ‘scale’ the food cost depending on this estimate
- The cost per plate of the event will be $8.00 and every donor that gives $25 or
more will receive one dinner ex. $100 = 4 dinners
- Moms’ll be asked to make desserts
- Players & volunteers will help set-up, clean-up and serve dinners

Ways to Help
Film -
- We use Hudl system
- Allows us to film games, upload them into on-line site that can be viewed from
any mobile device or computer
- Great teaching tool to breakdown game film, competitor film etc.
- Create recruiting highlights that can be sent to college coaches directly from the
system
- Typically, we only film varsity games
Stats -
- We use LaxSoft system
- Requires 3 people – two on sideline & one in the booth
- Very effective way of accumulating stats and providing reports for players,
coaches & archives
Critical we have a 4-5 person team of committed parents to help with this!!
SLIDE 24
What we need to know tonight :
- 1. Film & Stats – anyone willing to be volunteer (please)?
- 2. Spring Break – RSVP if you are NOT attending.
- 3. Contact Information – Emails, phone numbers, etc.
As the season approaches, we’ll be asking for volunteers for :
- 1. Senior Night – should be a sophomore parent
- 2. Chow-downs - to be held at private homes after selected games
- 3. Spirit Committee – ball boys, locker decoration, pep rally, boosting attendance to
games
