  1. MISSION Jug Handle Creek Nature Center is a federally recognized non-profit Nature Education Center and overnight facility. Our Mission is to teach people of all ages the stewardship of coastal land and water resources and model practices of conservation and sustainability.

  2. GOALS • To provide environmental education opportunities for local and visiting schools from throughout the region with an emphasis on stewardship of natural resources. • To serve ethnically and geographically diverse K-12 students and their teachers. • To spearhead stewardship projects on the coast working with diverse stakeholders. • To provide a training and retreat site for environmental organizations and other groups. • To provide a child friendly space wherein families and individuals of all ages can enjoy the coast’s many natural resources. • To serve as a gateway and interpretative center for the Jug Handle Pygmy Forest Ecological Staircase. • To preserve and restore the natural attributes of the land and watershed and replace exotic invasive plants with native species. • To create an experience for visitors where interaction between humans and nature provides inspiration, serenity and peace within a model for sustainable lifestyle. All visitors and overnight guests have the opportunity to take part in practical hands-on tasks that teach techniques of stewardship of natural resources.

  3. RESOURCES AND ACTIVITIES • A place for interaction and environmental interpretation for people of all ages. • A native plant nursery and extensive field projects through which youth and adults gain hands-on experience in plant propagation, stewardship of coastal lands and watershed and habitat restoration. • Collaborative efforts with numerous restoration partners to spearhead habitat restoration projects on public lands and privately owned sites, including the Stornetta Dairy Ranches, Campbell-Hawthorne and Mendocino Redwood timber lands and state lands. • Affordable housing in the Farmhouse lodge, cabins and campground facilities for groups and individuals who might otherwise be excluded from the area by high lodging costs. • A lending library of resource books and scientific equipment that support natural resource education and watershed monitoring projects. • A natural history reading library and interpretive displays at the farmhouse. • Trail access under Highway One to the nearby secluded ocean cove and to the deep forest ecosystem along Jug Handle Creek in Jug Handle State Reserve.
