BACKGROUND

Golden Glades Interchange is a SIS intermodal hub that connects to other SIS facilities, such as

 I-95  SR 826 (Palmetto Expressway)  Florida’s Turnpike  Park and Ride

STRATEGIC INTERMODAL SYSTEM (SIS)

A statewide network of high-priority transportation facilities such as: airports, seaports, rail corridors and highways

WHAT IS A PROJECT DEVELOPMENT AND ENVIRONMENT (PD&E)?

A process followed by FDOT to evaluate:

  • Engineering alternatives
  • Environmental impacts
  • Social, cultural and economic

impacts associated with a planned transportation project

Mandated by the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) of 1969

Required when federal funds are involved

Golden Glades Interchange currently carries is over 400,000 vehicles per day with direct impacts on regional travel within the tri-county area

Travel demand within the interchange is projected to increase by approximately 50% by the 2040 year

Critical movements experiencing heavy congestion with insufficient capacity include:

1. SR 826 EB to I-95 NB 2. Turnpike SB to I-95 SB
