“TRANSFORMING LIVES--BUILDING COMMUNITIES” In 1896, the first missionary society was organized at Saint Andrew African Methodist Episcopal Church. The Society became a member of the West Tennessee Conference in 1906 and was named the Sarah E. Tanner Missionary Society in 1910 in honor of the wife of Bishop Benjamin Tanner. The Society was divided into

Todd, Maggie Ball, Sylvia Jeffferson, Hattie Gilton, Irene Phillips-Massey, Gloria Massey-Ward, Lesa Halfacre, and Naomi Dyson. Today, under the leadership of Mrs. Deborah Dawkins-Massey, we continue our tradition of providing service to the needy of the church and the community. Because of its committed and illustrious leaders, especially the ones we honor today, we look forward to transforming lives and building communities during the 21st century.
