  4. Introduction • The Nursery is one of the most important parts of your child’s education. • Your child as been allocated either the morning session or an afternoon session. Your child will attend School on a part- time basis. Morning session: 8.45am – 11.45am Afternoon sessions: 12.30pm – 3.30pm Full time schooling begins in the September after your child has turned 4.

Starting at Mellor … • Starting school can be a scary experience but we aim to make it as easy as possible School opens on Tuesday 30 th August 2016 • You and Your child will attend a ‘Stay and Play’ session during the first week of school starting Tuesday 30 th August • Your child will start school from Monday 5 th September you are welcome to stay if your child is unsettled. • Once your child has started school they come everyday to their allocated morning or afternoon session. • Parent questionnaire, personal information and start date letter in an envelope which needs to be collected at the end of the presentation.

  6. What can you do to help? • Encourage your child to go to the toilet on their own. • Send your child to nursery in clothes they can manage. • Encourage your child to do up their own zips and buttons. • Encourage your child to be as independent as possible. • Time!

  7. School Dress Code • At Mellor we expect ALL children to come to school wearing the correct dress code. • Please make sure ALL of your child’s clothing and footwear in fully labelled to avoid lost property. • Jewellery should not be worn.

  8. • Plain trousers/skirts/tunics/tracksuits- black, grey or blue • Sweat shirts- black, grey, blue or jade • Polo shirts or cotton T-shirts- black, grey, blue or white • Footwear- black shoes or trainers. Plimsolls to wear as indoor shoes. No flip flops, slip on shoes or heels. • Book bags (please ensure your child brings this to school each day)

  9. Healthy Schools Award • The Healthy Schools Award was obtained in the 2006. We ask you to continue to support us, particularly in providing your child with healthy snacks. • During the session your child will be offered a piece of fruit and some milk. • Birthday celebrations

  10. Early Years Curriculum The Early Years Curriculum covers the following areas of learning:- • Personal, Social & Emotional Development • Physical Development • Communication and Language • Maths • Literacy • Understanding The World • Expressive Arts and Design • We encourage learning to take place in both the inside and outside learning environments. Therefore, it is important that you provide your child with the appropriate clothing and footwear to suit the weather.

Opportunities for parents Parent/child morning activities • You will have the opportunity to take part in parent and child activities each morning throughout the year Adult courses • There will also be opportunities to attend courses focussing on how to support your own and your child’s learning.

  18. Contact with the school • Please ensure that all personal information is updated via the school office so that we have the appropriate information to hand in the case of an emergency. • If your child is unwell, please let the office know as soon as possible. • If another adult is picking your child up from school, please let the office or their teacher know.

  19. Nursery Handbook • The Nursery handbook provides you with general school information. • Any questions please don’t hesitate to talk to a member of the Nursery team. • Please pick up your envelop with all the details about when your child will start Nursery. • Thank you for coming
