PU foams vs. Mineral wool

Conclusion: Even the smallest gaps in the joint causes Even the smallest gaps in the joint causes serious loss in noise reduction !!!

PU-foam Mineral wool

Has perfect adhesion to all building materials No adhesion Perfectly fills the joint thanks to it’s controlled expansion No expansion, will leave gaps and holes Very easy to apply Very time consuming to fill the joint Will not take up extra space in the joint

Important facts about PU foams:

Door Frame Installation

  • Always store cans upright.
  • Store in a cool and dry place at temperatures between +5°C and 35°C
  • Never put a PU foam can in direct sunlight

Never put a PU foam can in direct sunlight

  • PU foam is not UV resistant so it always needs to be covered with a

sealant, paint or plaster.

Door Frame Installation

STEP 1: Preparation:

Door Frame Installation

p

  • Keep a gap of minimum 10mm and

maximum 20mm between wall and door frame.

  • Substrates should be clean and free of

dust and grease but can be moist.

  • Loose parts must be removed and if

necessary primer must be used (e.g. old plaster) Sli htl h idif th f & d

  • Slightly humidify the surface & door

frame before applying the foam

  • Use protective gloves
  • Shake can thoroughly for 30 seconds

How to use PU foam?

  • 1. Apply adapter to

can

  • 4. Apply foam

upside down can upside down

  • 2. Shake can thoroughly
  • n regular basis
  • 5. Removal of spoiled

foam: use McCoy Soudal foam cleaner or

  • 3. Spray surface with

acetone for fresh foam. Use knife for cured foam (do not burn) p y water prior to application of PU-foam. Moisten every layer in case of multi-layer application application

slide-32
SLIDE 32

Why moistening so important? Why moistening so important?

  • Better cell structure

– Acoustic – Thermal

  • Faster curing
slide-33

Door Frame Installation

STEP 2: Applying of PU foam:

Door Frame Installation

pp y g

  • Hold the can upside down and extrude

the foam by pressing the bar the foam by pressing the bar

  • Spray some extra water if you are filling a

gap with some depth or if you are applying the foam in different layer applying the foam in different layer.

  • PU foam is a moisture curing product, it

will cure by absorbing moisture from the air Spraying some water on the wall and

  • air. Spraying some water on the wall and

frame will fasten-up the curing process and will give a better cell structure (acoustic & thermal properties) (acoustic & thermal properties)

STEP 3: After applying PU Foam

  • Spray some additional water on the

applied PU foam on both sides of the applied PU foam on both sides of the frame

  • After use, clean the valve and tube

immediately with Gun & Foam Cleaner immediately with Gun & Foam Cleaner

  • Cut the spoiled foam away after curing of

PU foam (24 hours)

  • Let the foam cure for minimum 24 hours
