Matali Crasset My Style “I try not to work object by object; I prefer to make networks of things , because I like to concieve an object as a life scenario.” - Matali Crasset Matali Crasset’s work can be seen as child-like and playful , with an imagination that can take her to areas that greatly explore the influence of light, habits, and objects. Because she frequently works with children, she is known to throw off all the preconceptions we as a society have of our living space in order to create fun, new ways of dealing with basic human needs. She claims to not want to change anything, but to only propose things to those who are interested.

Approach To Design She explains that she doesn’t have a process for coming up with ideas, and she is not the kind of designer who analyses where she is going or the material she is using. She is more interested in observing the ways people behave, and she thinks that design is a kind of applied anthropology . It's a kind of long process which is inspired by behaviours and by the way people move and act. Her aim is not to create an object but more to investigate situations that can be molded to fit the individual needs . Her imagination often takes her to areas that explore the everyday rituals, habits and objects.

Essential de Patisserie by Matali Crasset & Pierre Hermé January 2010 This collection consists of four pieces for making and serving pastry - mixing bowl, spatula, whisk, and serving plate. Each one is simple yet unique because Crasset focuses on the essentials while incorporating multifunctionalality . Before Crasset began to design this set, she went to Hermé’s kitchen to watch how pastry chefs worked, studying their motion and gestures .

Essential de Patisserie by Matali Crasset & Pierre Hermé The spatula has two sides; the rigid side for mixing ingredients and the silicone blade for scraping off the batter. The mixing bowl contains a small depression within it for mixing smaller portions in the beginning. The whisk itself is made of elastic whisk, however, one can attach the rigid wires to whisk thicker blends. The serving plate consists of three modular parts, each with chamfered edges so that one could easily take apart or assemble them. Hence, there can be three different size plates.

She designed the sofa’s parts into moving pads in which you can playfully arrange them to create two sorts of comfort. One in which a person sits contentedly with a secure backrest, and another with a footrest so a person can lazily recline.

Evolute Lamp Simpilcity in its purest form 2004 Crasset’s continuing research into the chanbe from the two- dimensional to three-dimensional .The requirements of Danese: design a flat-pack light fitting. Thus create a lampshape from a simple sheet. Th “Evolute” lamp is created to bring interaction between the users and the object itself. It is a lampshade delivered as one single package to be assembled. The object is transformed by folding and creating forms, therefore allowing interaction that is not normally seen with stationary objects like lamps. The “Evolute” is made of wood , but it is delibrately shaped to look like a rolled up leaf , which both are ways to bring nature to the home.
