  4. WHAT IS LYME DISEASE?  Caused by the bite of a deer tick  Bacterial infection from the deer tick  Can make you and your pets very sick

  5. HOW DO YOU GET LYME DISEASE?  Tick jumps or crawls on to you  The tick bites you Bacteria ( Lyme Disease)  They may “spit” inside you  Their spit has a bacteria that causes Lyme disease Stomach  If the tick passes that Saliva bacteria to you, you may get sick! Human Skin

  6. HOW DOES LYME MAKE YOU SICK?  Lyme Disease comes from a bacteria  It makes you very sick  You need to go to the doctor to get medicine to get rid of the bacteria

  7. FACTS ABOUT DEER TICKS:  Very small  They jump or crawl on to you or your pets  Late spring and summer is when you will see them most  An engorged tick is a tick that has been on a person or animal for 2 or more days and is filled with blood

  8. WHERE CAN YOU FIND TICKS? • Tall Grass • Woods • Bushes • Stone Walls

  9. HOW CAN YOU PREVENT LYME DISEASE?  Cover up when being outdoors  Wear bug spray  Wear white or light colored clothing  Check for ticks daily  Shower soon after being outdoors  Tell your parent or teacher if you have a fever or rash

  10. WHERE SHOULD YOU CHECK FOR TICKS:  Neck  Shoulders  Arms  Armpits  Legs  Behind your knees  Feet

  11. WHAT SHOULD YOU DO IF YOU HAVE A TICK ON YOU?  Tell your parent.  Tell a teacher.  Tell the nurse. Have an adult help remove the tick from you right away!
