Township of Ramara Facts:

(within the Lake Simcoe Watershed)

  • Shoreline 51 km (16.9%),
  • Approx. 282 km

stream\drains (16),

  • A total of 66 km2 of forest,

grasslands and wetlands,

  • A total of 92 km2 in

agricultural production,

  • Just under 1 km2 of built-up

urban area.

In 2016, LSRCA will have completed all Subwatershed Plans

  • The Implementation Plan for

Ramara Creeks, Whites Creek and the Talbot will be completed 2016,

  • Total cost to complete was

$233,767,

  • The Township share was

$37,500 (5:1 benefit),

  • Plan is the roadmap for

future action including a project inventory and tool to prioritize action.

Improved Knowledge and Understanding

  • Source Water Protection saw an investment of $422,000

to map Tier 2 water budget and ESGRA’s in Ramara,

  • Lake and Tributary Monitoring Program
  • Lake plant biomass and invasive mussel study
  • 120 water quality samples 2011-2015 at Ramara Drain 1
  • Talbot river 34 discharge measures to develop rating curve for

TSW water level gauge

  • Biology monitoring of fish, benthic invertebrates and

temperature annually at 2 sites

  • Subwatershed plan characterization included an additional 24

water quality, 9 stream flow, 13 fish/benthic/temperature sites.

Total benefit $143,150

Conviction Example:

  • Received court for owner to undertake remedial

works – total refusal

  • LSRCA undertook key drainage works to protect

several homes under the court owner

  • Cost to LSRCA for works - $32,000 (excludes legal)
