What is LBS?

 Lithuanian Biochemical Society (LBS) - is an

independent, non-governmental, non-profit organization.

 Our mission - to consolidate biochemists for solving

common professional or society-related problems, to promote and support the development of biochemistry and related fields in Lithuania.

 History - Founded on 26th of October, 1960 as a branch of

Soviet Federal Biochemical Society. In 1989 LBS became independent and in 1991 joined the European Federation of Biochemical Societies (FEBS) as a Member.

 LBS has about 350 members  Universities:

Vilnius University, Vytautas Magnus University, Lithuanian University of Health Sciences, Kaunas Technology University etc.

 Research institutes: Institute of Biochemistry, Institute of

Biotechnology, Institute of Botany etc.

What we do?

 Conferences - since 2000 biannual conferences for the

biochemists working in all the fields of biochemistry

 Education – National pupil academy; Lithuanian centre of

non-formal youth education – extramural school for young biochemists;

 Promoting science – Taking part in preparing science fair

“See differently”; Project “LBS potential to promote Knowledge society”; promoting science through TV, news portals, radio etc.

 Giving feedback to science – defining biochemical term

dictionary; Book “50 years for Lithuanian biochemical society. Dates, events and people”
