Citizenship

 All subjects now using the new number grades

Types of Qualifications

 GCSE  BTEC  V CERT  CoPE

GCSE

(General Certificate of Secondary Education)

 Usually a mix of theoretical study and

investigative work

 Some subjects have large practical elements  Some subjects have a combination of written

examinations and project work

 Examinations take place at the end of the course

in Year 11

3 GCSE Grading for all subjects examined in summer 2020

  • Broadly the same proportion of students

will achieve a grade 4 and above as currently achieve a grade C and above

  • Broadly the same proportion of students

will achieve a grade 7 and above as currently achieve an A and above

  • For each examination, the top 20 per cent
  • f those who get grade 7 or above will get a

grade 9 – the very highest performers

  • The bottom of grade 1 will be aligned with

the bottom of grade G

  • The mathematics, sciences, and languages

GCSEs will be tiered, with grades 4 and 5 available through both tiers

BTEC and V CERT Qualifications

 Students can see the relevance of the work  They are rewarded for their efforts as the course

progresses

 60% continuous assessment  40% of the course assessed by controlled

assessment

 Contact with people from outside school  Developing a wide range of work-related skills  Equivalent to one GCSE  Good preparation for other vocational courses in

further education/apprenticeship at level 3

CoPE

 Certificate of Personal Effectiveness  Students complete a range of practical,

life enhancing and work related challenges

 Students are assessed by creating a

portfolio of evidence as they complete various challenges

English Baccalaureate

 Achieved if a student achieves “a good pass” (5)

  • r above in:

 English Language and Literature (combined or

separate)

 Mathematics  At least two Sciences (or double certificate)

Computing can count as one of the science GCSEs

 One modern language  History or Geography
