Literacy Focus

  • LFX requested that KYL focus on raising literacy levels for seniors.
  • Personal Inquiry for KYL was ( Raranga 5 Rangatiratanga) improving

academic literacy in order to promote change where the learners have the best possible outcomes for both internal and external assessments.

  • Set up a referral system whereby teachers refer students who need additional

assistance.

  • Literacy review for Years 9 - 11 provided an opportunity to reflect on past and

current practices.

  • Arts Faculty did pretesting, learning (Five word Friday) and post testing of

academic words to improve external results. Selected students gained literacy strategies and credits from this referral system. Most students shifted from below 20 to over 20 in Level 3.

Hui Whakarewa

Facilitated by: Mara Blucher & Matt Ross Supported by: Robbie Lamont

  • 3 x hui
  • Ongoing observations
  • Personal coach for 2 years (in school

CoL)

Since my initial teacher training, I have not experienced such rich, vulnerable and challenging professional learning within a

  • school. Especially as the learning was

supported by the continuous access to our in-school CoL leaders, with on-ongoing

  • bservations and opportunities to apply our

learning about culturally responsive pedagogy in the classroom.

The support of the group was amazing. I learnt a lot from Rebecca and Hanna in terms of the strategies they use and the way they implement pedagogy in the classroom. A valuable insight into cultural responsiveness
