ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPLYING TO JJWBGSP PARTNER SCHOLARSHIP

  • Be a national of a World Bank member country eligible to borrow.
  • Not be a dual citizen of any developed country.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent university degree) earned at least three years before the application

deadline

  • Have at least 3 years of development-related experience since earning a Bachelor’s and within the past six

years from the date of the Application Deadline.

  • Have been short-listed by one of the JJ/WBGSP partner master’s programs listed on the JJ/WBGSP website
  • Be in good health as certified by a medical doctor less than 3 months before the start of the master’s program.
  • Not received any scholarship funding to earn a Graduate degree or its equivalent from any other sources

funded by the government of Japan.

  • Not be an Executive Director, his/her alternate, and/or staff of all types of appointments of the World Bank

JJWBGSP SCHOLARSHIP BENEFITS

  • Economy class air travel between your home country and the host university at the start of your study

program and immediately following the end of the scholarship period. In addition to the two-way air travel, scholars will receive a US $500 travel allowance for each trip;

  • Tuition for your graduate program and the cost of basic medical insurance usually obtained through the

university.

  • A monthly subsistence allowance to cover living expenses, including books. The amount of the

allowance varies depending on the host country.

YNU`s Public Policy and Taxation (PPT) Program is a two- year program wherein the students receive a Master`s degree in Economics and also complete a 10 month practicum at Japan`s National Tax Agency. Yokohama is the second largest metropolis in Japan, and

  • nly 30 minutes from Tokyo. We accept 5 students each

year, who are admitted in the Autumn semester (late Sept). In addition to coursework, all students must complete a master’s thesis. There are also ‘Special Topics Lectures’ by visiting academics and policy practitioners throughout the

  • year. We also have several excursions to local government
  • ffices, factory tours and World Heritage sites.

This Master`s program is geared for those mid-career government Tax Officers from so-called ‘Borrowing’ Countries, who will return to their positions after

National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies (GRIPS)

Public Finance Program, Tax Course

 Objective and Eligibility:

  • Provide students with the conceptual understanding and technical competence to

become leaders in the area of taxation.

  • Government tax officials from developing countries with at least 3-years of

working experience in the field. English proficiency. No more age limit!  Duration:

  • 1 year and 1 month (1st week of September to mid-September)
  • Public Finance Program has Tax Course (5 JJ/WBGSP students/yr) and Customs

Course (10 students/yr).  Curriculum:

  • Academic segment: Economics oriented (microeconomics, macroeconomics,

econometrics, public finance). Also offers interdisciplinary courses (political science, accounting, public administration, law, engineering, etc.).

  • Practicum segment: provided by National Tax College, a training institute for

Japan’s tax officials (Japanese tax system/law, tax administration, HR management, tax examination, international tax treaty, visit to regional tax offices, etc.)

  • Strong support for academic writing (Center for Professional Communication).
  • Write a “policy paper” (thesis) under the close supervision of a faculty member.
  • Offers Japanese Language course (non-credit).

We target mid-career professionals with a solid university education and working experience in areas related to policymaking. We expect our students to have a clear view of the problematic of their respective countries, in particular, in the context of globalization and accelerated technological change. The Course in Economic Policy is aimed at candidates who need sound knowledge of economics in making policy decisions, and the Course is Public Policy is aimed at candidates who need knowledge in political science, international relations and sociology in making such decisions. Established in 1995, the program has the longest history as an English program at the university. It has more than 130 graduates over 40 different countries around the world. Current JJ/WBGSP scholars are from Bangladesh, Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Ethiopia, Ghana, Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia, Algeria.
