Drivers for Change In the Future Criteria for Success Planning Principles

‘As many services as possible delivered on the island without the need to travel’ ‘A beacon to attract people to Barra’ ‘Public accessibility to multiple services’ ‘Everyone needs to collaborate’

National Performance Framework Connected Scotland Islands bill Place principle 2020 Vision The Healthcare Quality Strategy for NHS Scotland £1bn investment in learning estate Climate change plan Aligning with Government Policy The new Barra Integrated hub will embody Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s commitment to delivering excellent educational, health and community services within a setting that places people at it’s core. There are currently two separate major investment projects being proposed for Barra and Vatersay. Firstly, NHS Western Isles, in collaboration with the Comhairle, are looking to replace the St Brendan’s Hospital and Care Home; secondly, the Comhairle are looking to replace Castlebay and Eoligarry Schools. Both organisations are currently working with hub North Scotland Ltd to explore the feasibility of integrating health, social care, learning and community services and facilities on Barra and Vatersay and the provision of a single combined campus in Castlebay. The purpose of this drop-in session is to introduce the project to you, the community, and provide an opportunity for you to discuss your ideas for the project with us. Please review the information on the boards and have a chat with us about the project. Strategic Intent Investment Proposal

Key Outcomes

Upgrading the pitch and sports facilities will allow us to play and encourage other teams to travel here. The sports pitch is often fmooded so football cannot be played and we must travel off island.

Shared Education Spaces Meeting Spaces Outdoor Learning Improved Community Wellbeing Sports Facilities New Career Prospects

Ambitions Barriers

The existing community facilities are isolated and not very welcoming. No fmexible activity or breakout areas in primary or secondary schools and lack of technology enabling fmexibility. A fmexible approach to adapt and incorporate innovative learning and teaching methods A new integrated and welcoming facility will encourage community engagement and the sharing of resources.
