HEALTH CARE WITHIN A SOCIAL JUSTICE FRAMEWORK

Health Care within a Social Justice Framework

  • Our History: The “Medical Model”

wanting to “fix” individuals, make them as “normal” as possible

  • Our History: Human service

professionals, echoing doctors, “diagnosing and treating” individuals

Health Care within a Social Justice Framework

Our Trajectory: From the “Medical Model” To “Person Centered Thinking”….or, to “Nothing About Us Without Us”

Health Care within a Social Justice Framework

  • Individuals get to be experts about

themselves, about their feelings, their bodies, their minds

  • Needs vs. Aspirations
  • Listening to the people we serve
