Technology Tools Are Supporting Inclusion and UDL in Tier 1 Instruction #9-10 • 21 st Century Skills with technology support Culturally Responsive • Teaching and Learning with the Goal of Racial Equity Digital Citizenship plays a growing role in Positive and Productive Life • #6-7 as well as Equity and Inclusion in sense of belonging at school Community Engagement • #13 Curating our Library collections to reflect the Windows, Mirrors, and • #14 Doors Philosophy for a Racially Equitable and Inclusive library space Access to Technology Tools Now Provided to 100% of our 6-12 students •  How are our students supported by Educational Technology and Slides Information Literacy doing? Higher levels of achievement in Research and Inquiry based tasks on # 17-20 • SBAC for our black and brown students than other parts of exam Achievement gaps persist in Research and Inquiry based tasks however • Study shows gains with Learning Tools to support our emerging readers • Sense of Belonging Data remaining flat or slightly down with roll out of • 3 1:1 program (Digital Citizenship) Our mission is to provide all students with an exemplary college preparatory education so they can succeed in college, career, and life.

Technology Standards Update • OSPI is in final stages of adopting ISTE Student Standards as new Ed Tech Standards • These 7 traits match the goals of our Educational Technology and Information Literacy Programs. • We have done trainings with ISTE and sent staff to national conferences Our mission is to provide all students with an exemplary college preparatory education so they can succeed in college, career, and life.

Updated Information Literacy Standards • Updated standards provide a clear connection between the library program and other BSD initiatives. • Librarians are focusing on the Include standard by diversifying our collection to make sure they include both window and mirror resources. 5 Our mission is to provide all students with an exemplary college preparatory education so they can succeed in college, career, and life.

Examples of Supporting ISTE and ALA Standards with the RTS and Librarians • Updated 4 th Grade Social Studies CBA assessment coordinates research and inquiry in the library with a redesigned task incorporating student voice and a more diverse group of historical figures in designing a new stamp • Co-Teaching in 7 th Grade ELA Argumentation Unit leveraging several of the King County databases as well as beginning the student’s “Research Toolkit” that grows 6-12 with the students. • Research, Gamification, and Creative Communication piloted with RTS in 9 th Grade Biology course using Minecraft, KCLS databases, and Office Mix to design a Mars Colony 6 Our mission is to provide all students with an exemplary college preparatory education so they can succeed in college, career, and life.

SSB 6273- Digital Citizenship • In 2016, Legislator passed a bill requiring OSPI to study improvements to Media Literacy and Digital Citizenship • In reviewing recommendations, our district began incorporating Common Sense Media lessons and resources K-12. • K-5 lessons are provided in the library, 6-12 the Research Technology Specialist supports integrating objectives into content areas 7 Our mission is to provide all students with an exemplary college preparatory education so they can succeed in college, career, and life.

Universal Design for Learning Universal design for learning (UDL) is a framework to improve and optimize teaching and learning for all people based on scientific insights into how humans learn. - It helps account for variability in planning and implementation of lessons - UDL is included in ESSA language at the federal level 10 Our mission is to provide all students with an exemplary college preparatory education so they can succeed in college, career, and life.

UDL: Learning Tools • Access provided to All students to read and write with more or less support using student devices • BSD participated in a research study on use of "Learning Tools" that support narration and dictation http://bit.ly/onenoteudl • • Increases in reading proficiency documented in study match anecdotal stories from students and staff 11 Our mission is to provide all students with an exemplary college preparatory education so they can succeed in college, career, and life.

Technology for Inclusion OneNote Class Notebook • Platform allows for Curriculum Delivery and Collaboration between Para- Educator, Classroom Teacher, and Co-Teacher Technology used extensively • in our 6-12 schools currently to support inclusion model Beginning stages of piloting • classroom devices to support a similar experience for our K5 students 12 Our mission is to provide all students with an exemplary college preparatory education so they can succeed in college, career, and life.

  13. Community Engagement • Parent Universities and other Learning Nights for Families are a new starting point to begin engagement around Technology and Information Literacy • Room to continue to grow this experience beyond just K-8 • Curriculum Accessibility • Elementary OneNote overview on www.bsd405.org • Continue to Recommend Secondary Parents Sit Side by Side and Access Class Notebook’s of students (or access remotely) 13 Our mission is to provide all students with an exemplary college preparatory education so they can succeed in college, career, and life.

Diverse Books • Ongoing PD for all librarians • Sought out book lists from publishers with suggested titles • Evaluating collections to determine current diversity • Lots of books with animal characters • Many books with black and brown characters • Looking for more specific characters that are culturally relevant to our population • Collaborating with teachers to find culturally responsive texts to add to collections and use in the classroom • Publishing companies are just now publishing more diverse books. 14 Our mission is to provide all students with an exemplary college preparatory education so they can succeed in college, career, and life.
