Different Routes: Full IB Diploma ● Students who meet IB Subject Requirements from H2 into H3 ● Students who require specific grades and subjects to enter tertiary courses OR IB Courses ● Students who do not meet IB Subject Requirements ● Students who do not need a full Diploma for their future career or study

  3. Full IB Diploma Candidates must: 3 x Higher Level (HL) subjects with a minimum 12 HL points 3x Standard Level (SL) subjects with a minimum 9 SL points Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) Extended Essay (EE) Gain a minimum of 24 points overall

  4. IB Courses Candidates choose: 4 - 6 Higher Level (HL) and/or Standard Level (SL) subjects Must do: Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) Optional: Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Extended Essay (EE)

  5. What subjects do I take for my Diploma? Think - What is right for me? Know yourself. Enjoyable, Achievable, Manageable, Realistic, Accessible, Portable, Reasonable, Purposeful…. Vs Unenjoyable,Unachievable, Unmanageable, Unrealistic, Inaccessible, Limiting, Unreasonable, Pointless….

  6. We are all different Inform your opinions - Speak with UCC, Teachers, Parents, current H4,consult University websites and other sources BECOME INFORMED Role of the Parent - Listen, advise, guide, help the informed decision-making process BUT allow the student final ownership of the decision.

IB Maths is changing: Check with UCC HL/SL Maths Analysis and Approaches for students considering: ● Engineering ● Physical Sciences ● Some Economics ● Analysts ● For Uni subjects with substantial mathematical content ● Calculus HL/SL Maths Applications and Interpretations for students considering: ● Social Sciences ● Medicine ● Natural Sciences ● Business Management ● Psychology ● Design ● Some economics courses ● Statistics

Common Issues ● Not meeting IB subject entry requirements ● We do not offer 4 HL subjects ● Ab initio languages and Language B are not available to students who have studied first language previously or are near-native linguists ● Ab initio is not available to students who have previously studied that language as Language B ● HL Maths is NOT better than SL Maths ● Studying in Germany? Check the recognition rules

  10. ● Initially everyone selects 3HL and 3 SL subjects ● Unfortunately not all subject combinations will be possible due to the timetable ● Have a back-up plan if you cannot get your first-choice subjects ● Select 1 option from each line ● Can select 2 Language A & no language B ● Can drop a Group 6 for supplementary elective
