The prevention of, detection of, and response to, criminal or intentional unauthorized acts involving or directed at nuclear material, other radioactive material, associated facilities, or associated activities. (NSS 20)

Analyzing data shows that there is still a pressing need for better Nuclear Security - worldwide Incident and Trafficking Database (ITDB): Established in 1995, information collected from official sources in 139 participating States

In 2018, 253 incidents were reported to the ITDB by 49 States Over 3640 confirmed incidents in total

Nuclear Security Plan 2018-21

  • The Agency assists Member States upon request to meet

their nuclear security needs, recognizing the fact that nuclear security is a national responsibility

  • Agency implement nuclear security activities under the

Nuclear Security Plan 2018–2021.

States expressed through the decisions and resolutions of the agency policy making organs.

  • IAEA provides, upon request, assistance to States and

  • IAEA is addressing the regional needs of Arab Countries through

different forums including (ANNuR) in their efforts to establish sustainable Nuclear Security Regime.

  • 18 ANNuR members have approved their INSSPs with IAEA.
  • 2 ANNuR members’ INSSP have been finalized and are now

pending official approval

  • ANNuR members also participated in Agency’s activities for

enhancement of regulatory regime under Africa Project.
