to pass their test but be safe drivers. It's given me the tools to deliver something more hard-hitting to help students think about changing their behaviour and thought process…. It's teaching students what could possibly happen and how they can change their thought process.”

"It's about practicing good habits and getting into them. Doing these things while you are learning means hopefully you won't think about it as you get more experienced and it just becomes natural. It's about teaching people not to pass their test but teach them to be safe for life “ Alex McNeill, student

ADINJC
✓ “The ADINJC have been supporters of the Honest Truth for many years as it allows us to open the door for us to have difficult discussions with
- students. It has been developed in a student user-
friendly way and allows students to make up their

As ADIs it means a lot to be appreciated as road safety professionals and we can choose the level to get involved and the small subscription fee gives excellent value for money.” ✓ Sue Duncan, Secretary of ADINJC
THT background

James Evans
Founder, FirstCar
Watching The Honest Truth develop over the years, I’ve always been impressed with the passion and innovation they’ve brought to young driver road safety. Identifying the
- pportunity for driving instructors to convey
these vital road safety messages was a stroke of genius and FirstCar are delighted to be giving THT a home. We are all very excited to help this great initiative continue to extend its reach and influence in the new driver sector.
The project was created ten years ago in 2009 following a tragic, fatal collision in South Devon which killed three young
- people. It is now part of
FirstCar.
about THT
17
empowering young drivers
Whilst we can educate and advise new drivers, they are they ones who need to step-up and act, both as drivers and as passengers. Action is only achieved through empowerment.
with truthful information
The Honest Truth focuses on facts. Evidence shows shock tactics are not an effective form of education or behaviour change, we feel young people can be trusted with the truth.
and actionable advice
With the best of intentions, road safety often focuses on the negative consequences of poor behaviour. The Honest Truth provides practical and actionable advice to help new drivers prevent/break bad habits and make better decisions.
how does it work?
18
- The Honest Truth is a road safety project that
harnesses the power of the ADI/learner relationship.
- The Honest Truth provides structured resources
and guidance, helping ADIs to quickly and easily deliver key road safety messages within driving
- lessons.
- In short, The Honest Truth is the road safety plug-
in for driving instructors.
quick, simple & effective

ADIs deliver one of ten ‘Truths’ on topics such as drug driving or inappropriate speed.
03
In total this should take less than five minutes of a one or two hour lesson.
02
Then have a short discussion about what their pupil has read and answer any questions.
04
Additionally, 90 second Truth Films are provided to be played on tablet or phone for richer experience.
how is THT delivered?
20
- You are under pressure from learners to get them through
their tests as quickly and cheaply as possible, so spending a lot of time on road safety is not an option.
- The Honest Truth ensures vital road safety education can be
conveyed effectively, within just a few minutes per lesson.
- Each ADI watches an onboarding video and completes short
e-learning course annually to maintain their Honest Truth
- status.
- Each ADI receives a Truth Pack to keep in their car.

for me when I saw it for the first time. It's a tremendous education tool for me and without doubt a first-class learning experience for my students. The Honest Truth works because of the simplicity
- f its message, easily communicated with striking
